At First Methodist Monroe we celebrate the opportunity to give back a portion of what God gives us. As a result, giving provides important resources needed to execute our ministry plans to see Monroe change one life at a time.

WHY SHOULD WE GIVE?

Your faithful giving supports the work of First Methodist Monroe in sharing the life-changing message of Jesus through missions, community outreach, care and support, church planting, and discipleship. Every believer should prayerfully consider the biblical guideline of the tithe (10 percent of income) as a helpful starting point for learning how to give.

“You must each decide in your heart how much to give.

And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure.

“For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

2 Corinthians 9:7

What does the Bible teach about giving and generosity?

God is the owner (Psalm 24:150:10-12)

We are stewards of what he has entrusted to us (Matthew 25:14-30)

God calls us to give him our first and best as our first priority (Genesis 4:3-5Proverbs 3:8-9)

God modeled generosity for us by giving his one and only son, Jesus, to die in our place (John 3:162 Corinthians 8:9)

We should start giving now, regardless of our circumstances (2 Corinthians 8:1-3)

We encourage every believer to prayerfully consider the biblical guideline of the tithe (10 percent of income) as a helpful starting point for learning how to give. (Genesis 14:18–20Malachi 3:8–10Matthew 23:23

Every believer can give biblically, regardless of income. The amount is not as important as the heart as one gives regularly, proportionally, generously, sacrificially and cheerfully. (Matthew 6:211 Corinthians 16:1–22 Corinthians 9

Every healthy church will go through seasons of sacrificial giving, above and beyond regular tithing, to provide for special needs and opportunities. (Exodus 35:4–36:7Acts 11:27-30).
