First Methodist Monroe partners with the following community charities:
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Home construction & improvements are a church-wide project where all members contribute to the building of a home for a family in our area. First Methodist Monroe has completed and fully funded four Habitat for Humanity houses.
DESIARD STREET SHELTER
A day shelter that gives the homeless a place to stay in the day time; to have laundry facilities and bathrooms with shower facilities and noon meals. Sunday School members provide noon meals on a regular schedule.
MEALS ON WHEELS
Engages our Sunday School Classes and other small groups of the church to provide a supplemental sack lunch on Saturdays for Meals on Wheels recipients most in need.
METHODIST CHILDREN’S HOME
Residents are the recipients of our annual Angel Tree, which allows members of our congregation the opportunity to provide Christmas gifts to the children.
One of the state’s leading nonprofits, providing services for those dealing with domestic violence, sexual assault, homeless- ness, and child well being. Collections on their behalf have included towel, household items, and cleaning supplies.
Sponsored by the First Methodist Monroe
Meets the first Saturday of every month to make minor home repairs for those unable to have the work done themselves.
Happens during the month of October. The pumpkin patch, arranged on the lawn of the church yard, requires the attention of all the volunteers we can gather. The proceeds of the patch go to a designated Monroe community outreach ministry.
S.T.A.I.R. READING PROGRAM
Tutors meet after school on Tuesday & Thursday at First Methodist Monroe in the Garden Room with 2nd graders who have been identified as in danger of academic failure.
